bashingED: Moodle: On Chats and Time

Would it be too much trouble to make the chat "invisible" to the students as soon as the class is over? I don't know if you have time at the end of class or access to editing your moodle during a class period, but that may be one way to effectively end the chat.

    Jeff,
That is a pretty good idea and I'll pass it on to Dawn as that might be what she's looking for.
I suppose, imho, I really don't care if students use the chat after class (all the transcripts are saved anyway). In fact, I just set up a "Water Cooler " chat that is open for the entire grading period and students are free to go into the site and discuss...really anything (most of the times it's trying to get clarification on some assignment...other times, it's just to chat).
    Thanks for the comment.
    Peace,
    Chris

We don't have that problem in our district. The chat module is not available. Violates AUP.

I typically don't have a limit on chats...just in case students don't get in on time, etc. It seems that it takes a few moments to get things rolling and all. Also, I usually set the chat to save the transcript and allow everyone to see the transcript...it makes for an interesting "reflection" as you go back and as a class, see what happened in the chat.

That's probably one of my favorite parts of the chat: the ability to go back and look at the transcript ("metacognition" stuff <== oh, nice grad school word from the late 90s).
    Thanks for the comment.
